Happy Thanksgiving to all! (Updated Tuesday evening...)

Is it just me, or did this whole year go by really fast?? In two days it will be Thanksgiving and I hope my turkey is ready to be cooked by then!

We had several fun things show up for the shop today....

Yall know we've been adding some great fabrics to the shop...about 100 or so bolts right now..just had these show up today..a couple from the Wiscasset line by Minnick & Simpson (now out of print), the dark brown paisley is from a new line "Wrapped in Paisley" by Kansas Trouble Quilters, and the little brown/red civil war print is from Charity Collections by Howard Marcus. Regular price on these are $9.00 per yard($9.50 for the brown paisley)... our price is $7.95 per yard and WOW girls get their discount!

Also FINALLY IN....the flax colored toweling with the red striping...16" wide. It's on a 15 yard bolt, so you can purchase whatever length you want...$5.50 per yard (WOW discount applies!) It is a great linen/flax color with nice primitive red (not bright) striping down both sides...here is a picture of one of the patterns we sell using it...

Just in time for Christmas...we found the most wonderful new line of candles...Scentsible Scents! Extremely strong fragranced and long burning....and the flavors we've tried so far are heavenly!! I wanted to get these in time for this weekend, so I didn't get quite as many flavors as I'd like...but we got some of the best ones!

(This is actually the photo provided by the company...so you can see what they look like..)

Two sizes...Medium Jar for $17.95 and 8 oz jar for $8.95...
Lemon Curd (shortbread cookie scent with a hint of lemon...so far, my favorite!)
Sugared Pumpkins
Southern Home
Orange Clove
Cinnabun
Nutmeg & Cream
Apple Cellar
Stockings & Fir (really nice frazier fir christmas scent..not too heavy)

I also picked up melting tarts in...packed 4 to a package, these will sell for $4.95 per package...
Lemon Curd
Southern Home
Orange Clove
Sugared Pumpkins
Winter Wilderness (another great christmas scent)
Nutmeg & Cream

And, last but not least...Room Sprays...nice large bottle for $5.95...
Winter Wilderness (good to spray on your "not so live" tree)
Southern Home
Vintage Linens (great for your bedroom or bath!)

Next time you come in, tell us what you think about the new scents!!

Before I forget...the new Blackbird Designs book, "Garden Club" arrived today as well...really a beautifully laid out book with some really nice projects. After filling orders, I have two left. I'll try and post some of the pictures from the book tomorrow so yall can see what all is in there...$26.95 (WOW discount applies!)

Three new Christmas patterns are at the shop...pattern price on each is $6.95...

This first pattern makes a great table runner...or take the ornaments "apart" and put each one onto a black background for fun holiday pillows! I'll have a limited number of kits available this weekend...as soon as I get them together, I'll be able to figure the price...

Fun penny rug mat with some of the pennies being turned into ornaments. I'm not kitting this right off the bat..it's a really easy, scrappy project. But if you are needing any of the colors, I have them at the shop. I will have pieces of army blanket cut for this project...so if you need that, I'll have them as well!

Probably my favorite of the new patterns...gingerbread men and candy canes are always a good thing! I can kit this project if anyone wants to do it as a mat, but right now, I'm putting pillow kits together using the center gingerbread man design with the candy canes and holly leaves...my model is turning out really cute and it is going very fast! Perfect if you need some quick hand made gifts!
I'll also have some gingerman wool packs put together for the stuffed gingerbread man that is included in the pattern.

Time to go watch Dancing with the Stars!

Until later...

A New week...a new post! (Updated Saturday evening!)

Evening to all!

I'm so glad to be home again...but whoa, do I have a ton of work to do! I'll be updating the blog all week as things come in or get done...here's the first thing I need to tell yall about...

Two new books will be arriving soon! I'll post pictures of the projects in each of these books as soon as they arrive...

(Arrived on Thursday!)
First is a new book by JoAnn Mullaly called "Crazy at Home". 15 projects in this book...$24.95 (wow price $22.45). I haven't ordered a ton of these...so if you are wanting one...let me know and I'll put your name on one when they arrive.

Also soon to arrive...Blackbird Designs newest book..."Garden Club"! $24.95 for the book (wow discount applies!)...Arrived Tuesday, Nov. 23rd..only two copies left!!

(Arrived on Saturday...will be in the shop Sunday, Nov. 21st!)
Oops...and almost forgot...Judy Condon's new book, "The Country Life" is shipping this week and we hope to have it here by the weekend. I have several names on a list so far so extra copies are limited. Let me know if you want one! $24.95 for the book (wow discount applies!)...

Today was the first chance I've had since being home to really get into the shop and move stuff around a bit so I can find everything! Here's a few pics that I took as I was working stuff around...sorry for the picture quality...the flash makes everything too bright and there's not quite enough light to make the shutter click fast enough not to make it a little blurry. Maybe Santa needs to bring me a new camera...hmmmmm....

This is one of my christmas "spots" in the shop...notice Santa and Elmer sitting in the red rocker...one of Vicki Wallace's dolls...he is just really great!

This is another one of Vicki's creations...great prim angel on a great old (big) textile bobbin...she's one you can just leave out all year...tuck her in an old hutch amongst your crocks and jugs...she'd be right at home!

Just a few odd shots of the shop...

Len Greco came in last weekend and brought us several of his incredible birdhouses! This is a picture of one of them up close...the workmanship is amazing..and these are definitely made to go outside for the birds to enjoy! Come in and see all of his designs!

This is a new piece...fresh to the market! Circa 1780-1800 North Carolina corner cupboard. The piece is originally from Albermarle, NC (near Charlotte). Exceptionally rare and all original open top cupboard constructed entirely of heart pine. All hand forged hardware and rose head nails...it is an excellent size, measuring only 38" from side to side. An easy fit to just about any corner! It will stay in the shop til the end of the year...if it doesn't sell...it's going home with us! $2,395.00. SOLD

We've now got about 100 bolts of fabric in the shop...lots of civil war prints, some really great old Thimbleberries, nice blenders and historical prints...just good stuff! Regular price per yard is $9.00... our price is $7.95 per yard (wow girls get 10% off!). Through Thanksgiving weekend I'll be offering these fabrics to our regular customers for $6.95...don't forget to mention this if you come in!

Other goodies new this weekend...
* 20 count brown cord silicone lights...$9.95 per strand
* Little star silicone pop-ons...these pop onto your regular miniature lights...$.95 cents each
* 24" german twig trees...$14.95

* Lots of new punchneedle patterns!
* New Christmas wool applique patterns
* New wool pillows (just take them home and enjoy...you don't have to make it!)

I'll be working on kits all this next week...I'll let yall know what all gets finished for next weekend!

Oh, and speaking of next weekend...don't forget, we will be open the Friday after Thanksgiving...and with bunches of new stuff coming in for that weekend to boot!

I think that about does it for tonight's update! It is going to be beautiful this weekend and the vendors were in full force setting up outside today...can't wait to go digging out there at bit!
There are two good shows going on out at the fairgrounds as well...The Women's Club Antique Show is going on over in the Scott building...and for the guys, there's the Dixie Gun and Knife Show...a little something for everyone!

Yall take care and have a great weekend!

Finally.....A new post!

Finally...a little bit of a new update! Hopefully by next week, we'll be humming back along with a really good update complete with pictures of some of the new goods in the shop! But for now, I have to keep this short and sweet...mainly because I'm using "dial-up" service to connect to the internet and trying to load a picture is next to impossible! (Did we really use dial-up way back when???)

First, let me say...we are back open (YEA!) after being closed for the month of October for the State Fair. I've been in Texas now for nearly three weeks (family medical emergency with my Mom) so I missed the whole ordeal of putting the shop back together and being there for opening weekend. Poor Shawn has been worked to death...but between him and some very helpful friends (you know who you are!!), everything went pretty smooth and if everything goes well, I'll be home on Friday and will be in the shop this coming weekend! I'm hoping I won't have to come back to Texas for a few weeks...so I'll be busy catching up making Christmas and winter kits, dying wool, and getting the Settler's Pride and "Maiden" blocks done and out to all you girls doing those Block-of-the-Month projects! Just try and bear with me while I catch everyone up!

We did receive the new holiday issue of "A Primitive Place" magazine...after the first weekend, we have one copy left. BUT..it is on re-order and we should have some more in very soon!

Also...Jill Peterson's new book, "Homecoming" came in...there are just a few copies left. But I am re-ordering that as well! And..her winter edition of "Simple Life" magazine is now at the shop...great stuff!

Christmas merchandise is in at the shop...with lots more coming over the next couple of weeks!! I have some wonderful things made by Vicki Wallace coming in this weekend...she does beautiful primitive work and her handcrafted dolls never last long! (I can't wait to get home and see what she has for us!)

Shawn has been doing to some great antique buying over the last month...I'll try and get a list up tomorrow of some of the items...several crocks and jugs, a red/white/blue jacquard coverlet, some great little benches, measures, etc...just to name a few of the things...and all at great prices!

I've got approximately 30+ bolts of fabric coming in this weekend..lots of great civil war fabrics...all at a great price! Once I get home, I'll get pictures up over on the website for anyone long distance wanting to order!

Well...so much for short and sweet! I'll try and get a better list of some of our new things up on the blog tomorrow...but for now, time to watch a little Conan and then off to bed!

Yall take care...Lisa

9 days and counting!

Well in 9 days we'll be putting our shop back together for the big reopening on November 6th! (I wish we were already done with all that rebuilding...but I guess what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger!)

We've got a couple of new things to show...

First, the December issue of Early American Life just came in....not to be confused with the "Christmas" issue of Early American Life! (Which we are sold out of the Christmas issue and I'm not sure if we can get it back in or not...)
As always...great articles...this one has a great article on antique and reproduction game boards (which we love!).... $4.99 per copy. It's over on the website as well for purchase...

I've put together kits on these "JOY" Star pillows...and they turned out great! I actually put two different kits together...one kit is exactly like the pattern...three star pillows all done in hand dyed wool. The other kit makes the pillow shown done as one long pillow. On that model, I put a fantastic reproduction antique silver tinsel around the outside...great! If you do it as one long piece, you can actually run the letters down the wool and frame it or turn it into a long wall-hanging! (Yep...I know the snowflake is missing one of its little "legs"...the drawing is wrong in the pattern and I've made a new flake pattern and added it to the patterns. I just didn't catch it until it was done and I was thinking...what's wrong with this picture!!??)

Price per kit...$19.95 with pattern or $10.95 without pattern (WOW discount applies!)
(Add $3.00 if you want the antique tinsel instead of chenille)

Price per kit...$25.95 with pattern or $16.95 without pattern (WOW discount applies!)
This kit comes with chenille to go around all three stars...

I'll also have the antique tinsel to purchase...both in the silver and the gold. Both have a great old look...nice and tarnished...it comes on 9' rolls for $5.95. There is a bit of a limit on this stuff...so if you want some...let me know!

If any of yall are going to Sharon's porch sale on Saturday and would like to pick up a kit for the pillows, let me know by Friday...I'll be taking kits over there for some of the girls to pick up that already have things on order!

Two of the little "pocket" books came back in...one is on basic embroidery stitches and the other is on crazy quilt stitches. Great little laminated fold out books filled with tons of stitches in easy to understand pictures...and best of all...they are cheap! $4.95 each!

Back to work for me...putting Santa kits together next!!

Tell All Your Friends!

I apologize that it's been so long between posts...lots going on...plus we took advantage of the shop being closed and took a small break!

If you're having withdrawels from the fairgrounds being closed, try coming out to Gresham Lake's Antique Flea Market this weekend...Saturday and Sunday...9am - 5pm each day! The Antique Mall there is having a flea market in the long parking lot out front! It's their first time doing it, but it sounds like it is going to be full of vendors! We'll be there set up with a booth on Saturday for sure! (Don't worry about coming early...they won't even let us set up until 8am!) (The address for the Antique Market is 6917 Capital Blvd, Raleigh.)

Over to the right I've put up a picture of "Linda"....the Fall Maiden wool project by Liberty Rose....I just got it cut out and placed the other night but wanted to show this so you know exactly what the kits are like! If you want one, just let me know!

There's some new books/magazines soon arriving!

Jill Peterson has a new book that will be ready in 2-3 weeks...called "Homecoming".

As with her other two books, this is a hardcover book, containing 153 pages with over 300 color photographs featuring 11 homes. $36.00 per book. (WOW discount applies, of course!) Here's a sneak peek of a couple of the photos...

I'm trying to make sure we order plenty...so if you are wanting to get your name on our "want" list for this book..please let me know! We'll also have this over on our website for sale (for you long distance buyers) with free shipping!

Also, the Winter issue of her magazine, "A Simple Life" will be here in two weeks as well! ($8.95 per issue) (WOW discounts apply!)

Judy Condon's newest book, Simple Greens, has been flying out of the shop. We still have a copy or two left if you need one! $24.95 (This one is all holiday decorating related!)

(Her next book, The Country Life, will be out mid-late November!)

A Primitive Place's holiday issue of their magazine is due out here in a couple of weeks! (I can't wait to get my hands on that!) This is another one that if you want to make sure you get a copy, please tell me so we can get your name on the list!

And finally....there is a new magazine coming out in 2011 that we will be carrying called "Primitive Quilts and Projects"...
I think this promises to be a really great magazine for all the primitive quilters and crafters out there! The magazine will come out 4 times a year...$9.95 per issue. (WOW members, don't forget your discount!)

Had a new bolt of fabric show up today...from Blue Hill's line call "Abigale". I must have a "thing" here lately for olive green and red..and this fits that bill great! Nice small civil war print in olive, tomato red and cream! Regular retail is $9.00 per yard...our price is $7.95 (WOW girls...discount!). First thing I thought of was...ooohhh...covered boxes and christmas journals! (It's over on the website as well for purchase.)

That's it for right now...more coming later this week as we get ready for the weekend! Enjoy the day...

Love this cooler weather! (updated Thurs. eve)

What a change from just this past weekend to today! This past Saturday we had a record high of 99...and today it's just 68 degrees outside and rainy! Sure makes you feel like fall might really just be right around the corner, doesn't it?!

Although the shop is closed for the month of October in our regular location, we'll be posting up lots of new things here and on the website until we reopen the first weekend of November...

Starting with...the Holiday issue of Mercantile Gatherings Magazine! We went on a bit of an antiquing adventure yesterday and I got a chance to really look this issue over while riding around in the truck...it won't disappoint, that's for sure!
There's a really good article on early lighting, the featured shop is Black Cat Primitives and the featured designer is The Wooden Nail. The Alfred's Farmhouse is the featured home in this issue and there are several great crafting projects...including how to make your own grubby silicone light strings!(Which actually sounds really pretty easy!!) Lots of great primitive pictures to inspire you
for the upcoming holidays...$8.00 per issue. (WOW discount applies!)
We'll be sending these out for those of yall who need one. You can email me directly or purchase off the website.

(Thursday evening...)

If anyone is looking for an antique linen press or oak press back rocker...I just put up a post on our selling blog (get to it over on the right hand side...)of a couple of pieces I'm needing to find a new home for! If anyone is interested...just contact me! These are pieces I've had for a long time...but it's time for them to go where they can be loved and appreciated! (Both are gone!)

More coming later so check back often!

One more weekend left....(updated Friday night)

Just one more weekend left before we have to close for the month of October! I'll update during the week as new things are ready or come in for the shop! I totally lost a day yesterday with a killer headache...didn't get a darn thing done, now I feel even more behind!

We did get in the new issue of Wool Street Journal...this one is really pretty good with lots of content and some good projects! $8.95 (WOW discount applies) for the issue and we'll have it over on the website for purchase as well...

Attention Girls doing the "Down the Maiden's Path" Block of the Month...

Wendy is ready to be picked up or mailed. For those wishing to pick up the kit, we will have them at our shop this weekend! If you are needing it mailed, just let me know. (You out of town girls don't have to contact me...)

Also...for yall that got the "Becky" Maiden kit...if you haven't done it yet, take a quick look at the kit and see if there is enough of the sunflower wool to do both sunflowers. There was a mistake done on the pattern and the amount of wool listed will only be enough for one sunflower. Some of the kits I caught, some I fixed and some (I think) went without enough wool! If you need more wool...please email me and let me know! I'll get it out to you asap!

"Hootie" the Owl kits are ready this weekend! $17.95 for the complete wool/floss kit. WOW members get the discount!

(Friday night)
A few new things are coming in for our last weekend....

After getting up at 4a.m. this morning (yes, you read that right!) to get to Liberty for the big antique festival by 6:30a.m....we finally drove back in the driveway at almost 6p.m. this evening with (unfortuneatly) a somewhat light "haul". We managed to snag a few deals for the shop....a cute little VA. 1 quart canning crock ($75), a nice large sized old dough bowl ($95), and really nice LARGE OLD handled tote ($95), a nice old firkin with grungy brown paint which is the original color and in very nice condition ( and two great old hog scraper candlesticks ($95 each or $150 if you buy the pair..and they are a matched set.)
Also, when I got home, my big box of fresh bittersweet was sitting on the front porch! We get this every year from a farm up in NY...it will be in the shop tomorrow....
AND...A few more handmade primitive goodies by Vickie Wallace are coming in too! She just brought me the coolest BIG halloween witch (complete with a bag of toads!), a crow on pumpkin, 2 little scarecrow dolls, a witch stump doll and some bat bowl fillers! She creates some of the most fantastic primitives...I know these won't last long!!

I'm tooooo tired to take pictures of the other goodies...yall will just have to come in and see us!

Have a great weekend!

What's going on out at the fairgrounds this weekend...(updated Friday night)

I'm trying to sit down here at the computer (between dye baths) and put on a few new additions that I'm taking to the shop this weekend...I'll be updating this along probably all afternoon at the speed I seem to be going today! So bear with me!

Our Legacy 2011 Calendars came in...well, two of them anyway...Simply Shaker by Karen Cruden and Folk Art by David. I did not order a ton of these since we have to close for October. Both have great pictures (12 different ones in all)...$14.95 each (WOW discount applies)

We also got these two calendar styles in pocket calendars as well. Great to throw in your purse or computer bag...$6.95 each...(the picture makes them look big, but they are a nice small size)

And don't forget about the Pure and Simple Calendars...$19.95...there are a few left!(Picture of it in the previous blog.)

We were able to get more of those really cool halloween mercury bead garlands back in. This is it for them! Very old looking in alternating black, silver and orange beads. Perfect for your halloween feather tree or entwined in a garland. 9' long...$7.95 each

For all you wool dyers out there (or if you just need good neutral textures to add to your stash!), I've made some "dyer's bundles"...consisting of 5 - 1/4 yard pieces of some great textures (and 1 solid). You get 1 1/4 total yards of wool for $24.95...wow girls, don't forget your discount! (There's a limited number of these available this weekend..if you need one held, let me know!)

Attn WOW GIRLS!!
The September wool treat will be at the shop for the next two weekends for you to come by and pick up (if you live in the area). There will also be some of the August wool treats there as well if you didn't pick yours up. For those of yall that live far away or can't make it in, I'll be shipping your treats out after we close for the State Fair. So don't panic...it's all coming! The September color is called "Garland Green"...great for all your upcoming fall and winter projects!

Attn Settler's Pride BOM Girls
There will not be a kit for September (since I've run a bit behind with the August kit!) For the girls who are pretty well caught up, you'll have to get your top pieced together before the next 3 blocks come out or you won't be able to go any further. The next kit will be the laurel wreath that goes around the center house block and will ship out in October. If you have any questions, just send me a quick email!

Three new patterns are coming in this weekend...more fun stuff for the holidays!!

Jack the Cat Mat..$5.95 pattern price (putting kits together!)

Hootie...$8.95 pattern price (putting kits together!)

"JOY" Trio of pillows...$8.95 pattern price (kits coming!)

I'm trying to get the kits on these three new patterns done..hopefully this weekend...but definitely next weekend! The wools have been dyed and will also be at the shop in case the kits don't get all cut and packaged!

1/2 and 1/4 yard cuts of washed black wool will be back in stock! $10 each for the 1/2 yard pieces and $5 each for the fat quarters. If you need more, I have it on the bolt as well!

Shawn found some fun die-cut 40's-50's skeletons and cats for halloween...those will be coming into the shop...cute vintage ones to add to a halloween collection at a cheap price...$10 each....

We just got a quick update from the fairgrounds office as to the events going on this weekend...we thought we'd pass the info along!
